I rebuilt an old Land Rover with my son over the last three years. Since we enthusiasts, near the end of the rebulild project we were confronted with a number of seemingly unresolvable issues: the headlights cut out at high RPM, the engine lacked power, and we had a big vibration on the front U-joint. The reason I say they were unresolvable is I spent over $1500 to address these issues by taking it to a dedicated rover shop only to have them swap out parts and then to have the vehicle break down for the reasons stated and to be towed back multiple times. Then, I met Phillip and his son who run 101 European. Each of the problems that others could not get to the bottom of were knocked off in quick succession. While I call myself and my son "hacks" we know quality approaches when we see them. They were smart and efficient. Everyone knows when you have an older car in the classic era, things are unpredictable in the time department. They did an adequate job of keeping me in the loop, but like all these things, I had to do my part too and contact them. Its a collaboration. I have other more modern cars and it's less of a collaboration which makes sense. I heartily refer 101 European to those who know how hard it is to get classic cars right and to those who appreciate "real mechanics" that diagnose and repair complex issues that, to the naked eye, seem simple.
